It was great to attend Nutraceuticals Europe in Madrid and spend time immersed in the health, wellness and nutrition sector which is a space that feels increasingly grounded in science.
What stood out most was how the sector is successfully bridging rising public health consciousness with rigorous nutritional and biochemical science. There’s a growing sophistication in how insights are translated into focused segmentation, credible claims and products that people can genuinely understand, trust and see benefit from. I came away encouraged by the sense the industry is evolving in the right direction and contributing to it in the not-too-distant future.
I particularly enjoyed learning from Enric Tardio Capdevila (Innova Marketing Insights), who highlighted several key trends shaping the market:
• Supporting an ageing population (“silver age”).
• Personalised approaches to health.
• Integrated physical and mental wellbeing.
• Stress management, sleep, and mental health support.
• Life balance and simplification.
• Avoidance of additives.
• Increased focus on fitness and movement.
• Nutrient dense foods and diet focus in the context of GLP-1 medications.
A recurring and compelling theme was how ageing populations worldwide are seeking to age well with particular emphasis on brain, bone, and metabolic health, alongside reducing disease burden and pressure on healthcare systems.
I also valued insights from:
• Agustín Roque on how the medical sector views food supplements.
• Micol Verlato on the benefits of sustained-release formulations.
• José Manuel Mingot on clinical applications of probiotics.
• Alice Olufeso on the hallmarks of ageing.
• Dr Umar Jan, who offered a deep and structured perspective on longevity and its mechanisms.
Although I couldn’t attend every session the overviews and system-level thinking I did engage with strongly reinforced both my interest and foundations in the nutritional and health sector.
Overall, Nutraceuticals Europe was an encouraging reminder that while health and nutrition move carefully and deliberately, progress is real and cumulative. I’m glad to be focused in an area that genuinely matters to human health and I’m excited to continue building within these verticals.
